Delores Blanche Higgason, 98, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed like the true Norwegian she was, fighting until the end, on July 20, 2024.
Dolly is survived by her brother, Almo Bergeson; children, John Wesley Higgason III, Raymond Wayne, Barbara Jean, Mark Warren (Sheri); grandchildren, Erin Michael Reeves and Johnny, Jenny, and Harley Higgason, and nephews Craig (Kathy), Chuck (Kim), Brian and Mark.
Dolly will be reunited with her husband Johnny, her brothers Howard and Chuck, her sister-in-law Barbara Bergeson, and her parents, Olga H. and Almer Bergeson.
Dolly lived a wonderful, full life of nearly 100 years! She was born on November 21, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, where she lived her early life on a farm with cattle, horses, and goats. After finishing high school and one year of college, Dolly left the farm to pursue a career in the C+P Telephone Company as an operator. In the 1950's she moved to Washington DC, and worked in Arlington, where she met her future husband, John Higgason, Jr.
Dolly and Johnny married in 1953. The newlyweds moved into their new house in Alexandria, built by Johnny, where the couple would eventually raise four children: John Wesley, Raymond Wayne, Barbara Jean and Mark Warren. Dolly and Johnny celebrated 54 years of married bliss before his passing in 2007.
Dolly had many hobbies, including tending her huge garden, canning, making jam, camping at the John Kerr Dam with her family and friends. Dolly loved yellow roses, butterflies, and watching the birds outside her window. She also enjoyed volunteering and spent 25 years as a volunteer at the Mount Vernon Hospital.
Church played an important role in Dolly's life, and she spent a lot of time in her volunteer work with fundraisers, MS, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Messiah Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Society and Bible studies, where she met Pastor Ron Zschoche.
In her senior years, Dolly loved to travel with Johnny and friends, including trips to Norway, and Ocean City, Iowa for Norwegian family reunions.
Dolly's family would like to express their thanks for your kindness and support during a difficult time.
