E. Lamar "Bo" Hilley, 74, of Seneca, died on October 25th, 2024 at Cottingham Hospice House surrounded by his wife and their children after a brief illness.
Born on June 11, 1950 and raised in Walhalla, South Carolina, Lamar was the son of E. Lamar
Hilley Jr., Dessie Hilley Beasley, and step-father Tom Beasley.
Lamar graduated from Walhalla High School in 1970, Tri-County Technical College in 1972, and
South Carolina Bankers School at The University of South Carolina in 1984.
After college, Lamar began working at South Carolina National Bank which began a lifelong
career in banking. He had a deep passion for banking and a strong commitment to serving his
community. Lamar was a volunteer for United Way, and served in leadership roles at Seneca
Chamber of Commerce, Seneca Sertoma Club, Business Industry Education Committee of
Oconee, Tri-County Technical College Business Advisory Committee and Fort Hill Natural Gas
Authority. Lamar retired from BB&T in 2008.
In retirement, Lamar particularly enjoyed golfing with buddies and having breakfast with "The
Romeos" (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Lamar loved music, particularly Eagles, Little River
Band, and Earth, Wind & Fire. He was known to stay in his vehicle until a song ended, long after
arriving at his destination.
Lamar was happiest being around people and water, but his greatest joy in life came from being
with his family, who cherished him in return.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his niece, Lori Anne Payne.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years and his favorite dance partner, Bridget Sosebee Hilley;
daughter, Vanessa Hilley of Seneca; son, Austin Lamar Hilley of Clemson; sisters, Elaine (Mike)
Lee, Debbie (David) McClure; Donna Harden, and Teresa (David) Bates; and numerous nieces
and nephews, and all loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to Parkinson's Foundation by visiting parkinson.org, the American Cancer Society by visiting donate.cancer.org, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Friends may visit the family at Utica Baptist Church in Seneca on Tuesday, October 29, from
10-11 AM, followed by the funeral at 11 AM. Burial will be at Oconee Memorial Park after the
service.
