Our beloved father, son, brother, and fiancé passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was just 64 years old.
Edward was born July 18, 1960, in Bay City to Gary and Janet (Wirbel) Brandt and was a lifelong resident of the Bay City area. He graduated from Bay City Western High School and continued his education at Delta College. Edward dedicated over 35 years of service as a supervisor at PPG, later known as Pittsburgh Glass Works, in Saginaw.
On July 30, 1983, he married the love of his life, Lynn Marie Balwinski. Together, they shared many beautiful years of marriage until her passing on September 28, 2022.
A man of strong faith and deep community involvement, Edward was a devoted member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Bay City. He served as a Eucharistic minister and was active on the parish council. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus in Auburn, Michigan.
Edward found joy in the simple pleasures of life-sailing, gardening, bowling, playing pool, and spending time with his cherished Ford Mustangs. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his steady presence, and his deep devotion to both family and faith.
Edward is survived by his beloved son, Michael Brandt; his parents, Janet and Gary Brandt; his brother Gary (Michelle) Brandt; his sisters, Wendy (Scott) Martin and Betsy (Grady) Olson; his sister-in-law, Jill Korkus (Mark); and his loving fiancée, Martha Combs. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warmth and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn, and by his father- and mother-in-law, Alfred and Irene Balwinski.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Edward's honor on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 2956 East North Union Road, Bay City, MI 48706. Family and friends may gather at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Rev. James Wm. Bessert will celebrate Mass. Private inurnment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association in Edward's name. Edward's life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration.
