Elizabeth Eileen Chappelle

Elizabeth Eileen Chappelle, aged 87, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025. She was born on July 15, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan, to the late Jack and Eileen MacMichael.
Elizabeth met the love of her life, Thomas Lanstin Chappelle, while they both were attending a Geology class at Wayne State University in the historic Old Main building. They were married on April 8, 1958, at Gesu Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 66 years, Thomas, and their six children, Kristin (Randy) Woodberg, Matthew (Kathryn) Chappelle, John (Linda) Chappelle, Marybeth (Mike) Weatherly, Robert (Renee) Chappelle, and Susan (Marty) Mitchell. A cherished grandmother, she took immense delight in her 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with the joyous anticipation of one more great-grandchild on the way. Elizabeth's passing leaves a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the lives of her family.
Elizabeth is also survived by her sisters Eileen (Ken) Behmer and Catherine (Art) Hessler, whom she was very close with. Her web of family connections was a source of great happiness and it was apparent in every holiday she hosted and every meal she prepared that caring for her loved ones was her greatest joy.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Jack and Eileen MacMichael, her brother Robert MacMichael, her sister Susan MacMichael, and her grandson Bobby Woodberg.
Elizabeth's passions and hobbies painted the picture of a woman who embraced the beauty of living. Whether she was cooking for large gatherings, hosting family and friends in her Lakeland, Florida home, or partaking in activities like golf and swimming in her younger days, she did so with enthusiasm and grace. Her love for being a grandmother was immeasurable, and she treasured each opportunity to impart wisdom, share laughs, and create memories with her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10:30 AM, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. 425 E. Washington St. Howell, MI 48843. Memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to Michigan Special Olympics or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
