Freda Ann Coots, 92, of New Albany, IN, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at Norton Clark Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 11, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Thornton) Weber.
She graduated from New Albany High School and attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. She found great joy and camaraderie as a member of the Bridge Club and Book Club, participating actively and contributing to lively discussions.
A dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freda instilled the values of her faith in her family. She was a loving hostess, opening her home for holidays and family events. She valued cheering on her children and grandchildren through various sporting events. In her final years, she delighted in her role as "GiGi" to her great-grandchildren, creating lasting and precious moments.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Edwin M. Coots III and her parents.
She is survived by her son Edwin M. "Huck" Coots IV of Jeffersonville, IN; her daughters Anne Woods and her husband Jack of Clarksville, IN, Leslie Taylor and her husband Robert of Jeffersonville, IN, Sarah Short and her husband Greg of Jeffersonville, IN, Jennifer Draggoo and her husband Dwayne of Nabb, IN.; sister Mary Lou Hess of New Albany, IN; 10 grandchildren Bradley Woods, Aaron Woods, Sophia Coots (Jeremy), Emily Taylor, Amanda Prather (Tyler), Andrew Taylor (Jacy), Edwin M. "Tucker" Coots V (Courtney), Lydia Shea (Michael), Elizabeth Koch (Jimmy), and Mary Catherine Short; great-grandchildren Campbell, Addison, Aiden, Edison, Gwendolyn, and Hayes.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 3-8:00 p.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School.
