George Eugene “Gene” Froerer, age 90, passed away on July 6, 2023.  He was with his wife of 64 years, Marilyn, and his daughter, Mindy.

Gene graduated from Ogden High School, served in the LDS Great Lakes Mission, and attended Weber College.  He worked 38 years at Hill Air Force Base in the transportation division retiring in 1992.  He was a hardworking man, holding down many second jobs, including Lee’s Donuts, Bingham Archery, and Bell Photography.

He was a kind, sweet, loving, compassionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.  He spent his life loving and caring for others, putting everyone else’s wants and needs above his own.  His love had no limitations or boundaries.

Gene was born with disabilities, but overcame them to become an active child.  He contracted polio at age 14, which he also overcame and learned to walk again and became an active teenager.  The polio left him with some lifelong physical challenges which many would find unbearable but about which he never complained.  In 1992, he injured his back and had to learn to walk again for the third time after a difficult back surgery.  He worked hard and was able to walk his youngest daughter, Mindy down the aisle on her wedding day.

Gene never let any physical disability limit his activities.  He always did what he wanted to do, in spite of what others thought he was capable of.    He was an avid fisherman for the majority of his life and was very active in his children’s lives as they were growing up.  He was their scoutmaster, coach, driving instructor, fishing and hiking guide, referee and mentor.  Gene never stopped learning in life, he was always interested in hearing your perspective on any topic and sharing his knowledge and beliefs with you, without argument as to which was right or wrong.  He was easy to look up to, even though he was only 5”6”.  All of our lives are better because we knew him.  He was our angel on earth.   He cared so much about us that he made sure to write his own obituary prior to his death so we wouldn’t have to, and here it is:

Gene is an amazing, upbeat man. His optimism and good cheer was always impressive. His great faith in God guided his life. He is an impressive man. We am sorry that we were out of town and missed his funeral service.
