Gerald L. Dunaway, 93, died Thursday, December 8, 2022, in Naples, Florida. He was born, January 20, 1929, the son of William D. and Mary Ellen Dunaway.
Gerald attended Vine Grove High School in Hardin County, Kentucky where he was a star on the basketball team. He met his wife of 75 years, Delores Harper, when both worked at the Elizabethtown Kroger store as fifteen-year-old high schoolers. They married in 1947 and moved to Louisville where he began his 38-year career with the L&N Railroad and the eventual railroad companies they joined. He attended Indiana University Southeast and graduated from the University of Louisville, becoming a life-long fan of the Cardinals. He retired from the CSX Railroad in Jacksonville, FL in 1985 as Assistant VP of Budgeting and Forecasting. From 1986 to 2019 he owned and managed Dunaway Tax and Bookkeeping Service out of his Louisville office.
He was preceded in death by sisters Dolores Pfeiffer and Betty Jean Dunaway.
Gerald is survived by this wife, Delores and three sons, David (Beverly); Gary (Donna); both of Naples Florida and Craig (Beth) of Newport, Kentucky. He also has 6 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky
His funeral is 12pm Friday, December 16, 2022 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Rd with burial in Stovall Methodist Church Cemetery in Radcliff, KY, Visitation 3-7pm Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the funeral home.
