Herbert V. Morie Jr.
July 14, 1953 – March 18, 2025
Herbert V. Morie Jr. passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 14, 1953, in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Herb spent the majority of his life as a proud resident of St. Charles City, where he built a life filled with service, adventure, and deep connections.
With a career spanning over 35 years in law enforcement, Herb made a lasting impact as a police officer, SWAT team sniper, and firearms instructor. His dedication to protecting others earned him recognition, including a Missouri State House resolution nominating him for Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Herb retired from as Sgt. of the St Charles City Police Department.
Before his career in law enforcement, his commitment to leadership and service began early in life, as he earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his character, perseverance, and love of the outdoors. He was also known as the "hot hunk" lifeguard at Blanchette Pool in the early 1970s.
He attended Southeast Missouri State University before earning his Associate's and Bachelor's degrees from Lindenwood College.
Herb was truly an officer and a gentleman, known not only for his skill and dedication but for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering sense of duty.
Beyond his career, Herb was a man of many passions. A true nature lover, he found joy in the outdoors, whether on a float trip, camping under the stars, or hunting in the woods. He was an avid reader, with a deep love for science fiction, having read thousands of novels-almost always with his nose in a book. He was quiet yet deeply loving, kind, and genuine, with a warmth that drew people to him. His large network of friends and loved ones is a testament to the impact he had on so many.
Herb also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his beloved Labrador companions, Casey and Kimber. He valued his friendships, his family, and the simple moments that made life meaningful.
Herb is survived by his children, Treasure (Matthew) Milinovich, Shawna (Joseph) Pettus, and Jacob (Jessica) Morie; his siblings, Dale (Joyce) Morie, Judy (the late Tom) Mayer, and Jeani (Tom) Wiethop; and his grandchildren, Mia, Gianna, Ava, Dane, Bodhi, and Asher. He was also a beloved nephew, cousin, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many.
He is also survived by his girlfriend, Carrie Rosemann, who brought love and companionship to his life.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Morie Sr. and Loretta Morie.
