Hubert Franklin "Frankie" Browning, Jr.

DURHAM- Mr. Hubert Franklin Browning Jr, age 80 passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, March 24, 2025. Mr. Browning was born on June 27, 1944, to the late Hubert Franklin Browning Sr. and Mamie Patrick Browning. Mr. Browning was predeceased by his wife Doretta Sims Browning.

Mr. Browning grew up on the family farm on Sparger Road in Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Browning, along with his siblings, learned that hard work, discipline, a little humor, and a lot of love were the cornerstones of life. Mr. Browning graduated from Northern High School in 1962 and attended North Carolina State University for two years. Mr. Browning worked in construction and delivered heating oil before becoming an auto mechanics teacher. Mr. Browning retired from Durham Public Schools and Southern Motorcoach Company. Mr. Browning’s hobbies were his 1950 John Deere M tractor, being a member of the Corbitt Preservation Association, playing his Dobro with friends, and maintaining relationships with his high school classmates.

Mr. Browning is survived by his son Woody Browning (Nicole) of Fuquay Varina, daughter Sue Browning Morris (Adam) of Timberlake, daughter Jean Powell of Raleigh, and stepsons Ron Sims (Lisa) of Oxford and Kevin Sims of Washington. His grandchildren are Holden Browning, Colby Browning, Hunter Morris, Jessica Powell, Jalen Powell, and step granddaughter Lucy Sims. Mr. Browning is survived by siblings Kenny Browning (Susan), Evelyn Browning White (Ronald), Tommy Browning, and Eddie Browning (Debbie). Mr. Browning was predeceased by sister Ann Browning Rudisill, brother-in-law Carl B. Rudisill, and sister-in-law Joanne Cameron Browning. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and cousins that he loved very much.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel.

The family requests no floral arrangements be sent. They are requesting that memorials be made to Gentiva Home Health and Hospice, Meals on Wheels of Durham County, or to any charity of choice.
