Mr. James Newton Kinnaird, age 80, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, peacefully at his residence in Bastrop, LA. He was a 1963 graduate of Bastrop High School and a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a medic in Vietnam. After his military service, he started work at General Motors dealerships and retired as a parts department manager in 2010. He spent his retirement years with a daily driving routine to several particular places, such as Bussey Brake, Casey's Body Shop, and Bolding's Auto Body Shop. He was known for always stopping to visit with fishermen at Bussey, as well as, picking up any trash he came across. He also made his daily route stopping at Melanie's for a Coke and ice and visiting with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deidra Kinnaird; his daughters, Shannon Kinnaird, Melanie Stephens and husband Mitch; his son, Michael Shane Kinnaird; his brothers, Donnie Kinnaird and wife Marilyn, and Bruce Kinnaird and wife Kathy; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Kinnaird is preceded in death by his parents, Newton Kinnaird and Ardell Hunt, and granddaughter, Cheyenne Kinnaird.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Bryson, Carson, Dawson, Tyson, Kolson, Addy and Thor.

I had the opportunity to visit with James in Bastrop in June, 2024 after having not seeing him in over 60 years. James was a year older than me and we were both in the Civil Air Patrol at the same time. It is unfortunate our paths did not cross again for some 60 plus years. I did not know he was a medic in the Army until reading his obituary. I respected James when I knew him as a teenager, but even more so after learning of what he did later in life. James is one of those people you never forget and for the right reasons. May God bless and provide strength for James' family.
