Mrs. Janice M. (Meck) Hartranft, 83, formerly of Kutztown, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Cornerstone Living, New Tripoli, PA.
Born March 24, 1941 in Mertztown, PA, Janice was the daughter of the late Stanley D. and Marietta M. (Romig) Meck. Janice and the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, Robert N. Hartranft, were married on August 4, 1964 in Longswamp Lutheran Church.
Janice worked for 31 years as a teacher. She primarily worked for Reading School District, teaching kindergarten, and also spent time working as a substitute for the Kutztown Area School District. Janice was a 1959 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Kutztown University.
Janice truly enjoyed reading, doing word searches, jigsaw puzzles and spending time quilting. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Robert, are her children, Dru D. Hartranft, husband of Elizabeth D. "Liz" Hartranft, Lenhartsville, and Rebecca S. Hartranft, wife of Corwin L. Smith, Maplewood, NJ. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Ruby, and her sister-in-law, Anna Mae "Cookie" Meck, Mertztown.
Along with her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Emory Meck.
Graveside Services for Janice will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Zion Moselem Church Cemetery, 340 Moselem Church Road, Kutztown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601.
