On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Jeanne Marie (Hunter) Lobert passed away at StoryPoint Memory Care in Grand Ledge, MI at the age of 94. She and husband John Lobert were lifelong residents of Dimondale, MI. The first of seven children, she was born on April 8, 1930, to parents Leslie and Laura Hunter in the family home on Snow Road in Millett, just south of Lansing. During her early school years, she went to the one-room schoolhouse in Millett, then on to graduate from Grand Ledge High School in 1948. Growing up, she worked at her uncle's store just down the road from home with her cousin Dorthea. After graduation from high school, she worked in clerical for a farm equipment company, then later at Consumers Power Company until she and John started having children.
Jeanne Hunter and John Lobert grew up in the same area of Lansing, as well as attended the Millett school, so they and their families knew of each other practically their whole life. After dating on and off for several years, they tied the knot on August 20, 1960, and remained married until John's death in 2003. They have two daughters, Susan (Lobert) Arra and Wendy (Lobert) DeMatio, and three grandsons, Thomas Arra, John DeMatio and James DeMatio.
As a couple, Jeanne and John enjoyed boating on the Grand River with family and friends, then later joined up with a few other couples to go up north deer hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycle trail riding, which included the kids when old enough to ride. She always loved a good game of cards with family, friends and neighbors, and bowled on a league for many years in the Lansing area. She liked to travel, and went on a few trips with Sue through LCC, then later with John when he retired, as well as a few trips with neighbors after John passed.
In her golden years, she would attend the Millett school luncheons and yearly high school reunions to catch up with family and classmates. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, and especially liked going to their sports, theatre and other school events. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister Betty and niece Jane eating lunch, chitchatting with Betty while Jane did their hair, always topping off the visit with dessert. During her stay at StoryPoint of Grand Ledge, she enjoyed participating in their many activities, including regular attendance at bingo, trivia, card and dice games, listening to people come and play music, a couple field trips, even getting a facial and manicure, and dancing (with her walker) at their senior prom.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Lobert, parents Leslie and Laura Hunter, brothers Alfred Hunter, Edward Hunter, George Hunter, Arthur Hunter and Harold Hunter. She is survived by her sister Betty Kring, daughters Susan Arra and Wendy DeMatio, also grandsons Thomas Arra, John DeMatio and James DeMatio.
The family would like to thank mom's niece Jane Wood for all the years she would go and do mom's hair, even at StoryPoint, and in getting mom and sister Betty together for their "lunch, hairdo and chitchat" time. We would also like to thank all the caregivers and staff at StoryPoint of Grand Ledge in taking good care of mom in her final years, especially to the caregivers and CorsoCare Hospice staff in her final stage of life.

I have known Jean for a very long time. She was our neighbor on Valley Trail forever. John use to always come down and vist us every Sat and then some. My folks played cards and think even bowled with them. She was sweet kind and always had questions for us. Her van, burgundy color always went up and down Valley Trail as she was on a mission. Always there for her daughters. She will be missed, her smile was always there. Now they are together again and the story´s there telling each other. With Kindness and Love Susan Celsor `White.
