Obituary
Jerry Theodore Johnson was born June 14, 1958, in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late Reverend Donald G. Johnson and Saundra L. Johnson. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Charlestown, under the leadership of Reverend Clifford Leavell. He was also a graduate of Charlestown High School.
He was an outstanding player for the Pirates Basketball team. He led the Pirates to two Sectional Championships in 1975 and 1976. As an outstanding player he was a member of the 1,000 Point Club. By the end of his senior year, he had an incredible scoring total of 607 points and an all-time career single scoring of 1,497 (1974-1977) that still holds after 40 years. He also attended The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.
He was a hard worker and had several jobs over the years including Essroc and the University of Louisville, where he was a Cardinal Basketball Fan.
Jerry was a kind man, good son, and brother, loving father, proud grandfather, and friend. He will live in the hearts of his brothers, Steve Wilson, Rev. Garry Johnson, and Dwayne Mason; sisters, Karen Wilson and Bessie Banks (Michael), and Yolanda Mason; daughters, Ebony Sullivan, Diamond Johnson (Dominic) and Callie Johnson; grandchildren, LeAngela Sullivan, Draconian and Devereaux Bline; nieces, Tiffani Banks, Courtney Tutt, Cassaundra Middleton; and nephew Tony Johnson; along with extended family and friends.
Life Celebration Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, September 18, 2023, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, IN. Visitation will from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Monday followed by burial in the Charlestown Cemetery.
