James (Jim) Carroll Haffner, 85, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Born on August 14,1939, he was the son of the late Milton and Carroll (Richter) Haffner. He graduated from Central Catholic High school in 1957 and Xavier University in 1962 where he played basketball. His claim to fame was guarding Oscar Robertson while holding him to 3 points during the 1st half of a game!
Jim married Linda Baughman on Feb. 1, 1964, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He was a 3rd generation owner of Haffner Paint Company and spent over 55 years in the business. He was a member of the Elks, St. Joe Athletic Club and American Legion. Jim loved spending time at Lake Wawasee in the summers and spent time in Fort Myers Beach, FL and St. Maarten in the winters. He loved to play golf, card games and watch sports. Jim also enjoyed coaching many of his boys' sports and especially little league baseball. Recently, he spent time watching his grandkids play sports - football, volleyball, and basketball.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Haffner and sister, Barbara Haffner Walker. He is survived by his wife, Linda Haffner; daughter, Laura Morris (Sloan) and their 2 children Megan and Michael; son, Gary Haffner (Penny) and their 2 children Whitney and Trevor (Jonelle); son, Tim Haffner (Shelly) and their children Taya, Hansen and Cala; and son, Terry Haffner and his 2 children Lauren and Luke. He also is survived by 2 great-grandchildren, James and Joshua O'Brien.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN, 46805. Burial to follow Mass at Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital https://give.rileykids.org or St. Charles Borromeo Church in Jim's name.
