John Wesley Dull, son of the late Thomas and Janie (McClurg) Dull, was born on September 6, 1931 in Buffalo, MO and departed this life on June 17, 2024 in Bolivar, MO. At the time of his passing he was 92 years, nine months, and 10 days of age.
John was raised near Buffalo, and attended a one-room school house near his home. He attended Buffalo High School and graduated in 1949. John was a second team All-State basketball player for the Buffalo Bison that year when they won the Missouri High School State Championship. John also achieved the honor of being a YMCA All-America in basketball. After graduation he enrolled at Missouri State University and attended for one year before enlisting in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. After serving his country, he went back to school on the GI Bill at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and received his teaching/coaching certificate. He was later inducted into the NSU Hall of Fame as well as the Buffalo High School Hall of Fame. After graduating college, John began his teaching/coaching career at Halfway High School in Halfway, MO in 1957 where he took his boy's basketball team to the final game in the Missouri High School State Championship in 1958. He moved back to Buffalo in 1960 and started teaching/coaching at Skyline High School. John then became the principal at Skyline. He left Skyline to take the job at Buffalo High School as the principal. After one year, he took the positions of Buffalo Junior High School principal and athletic director where he served the school district for over 20 years before retiring.
John was united in marriage to Leota Siebern on September 6, 1953 and to this union, three sons were born, two of whom survive him. John and Leota were long-time members of First Baptist Church in Buffalo where John served as a deacon for many years.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Robert and Richard; one sister, Dessie Dull; one brother, Ernest Dull; and one son, Steve Dull. He is survived by his two sons, Jimmie & wife Elaine Dull of Blue Springs, MO, and Kevin & wife Luann Dull of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren, Christy & husband Bob Strait, Janie & husband Alek Lydel, Jared & wife Jessie Dull, Luke Dull, Ciara Dull, and Kelsey Dull; and five great-grandchildren, Anna Strait, Abby Strait, and Ciara's children, Josie Kuntz, Easton Dull, and Pyper Neal. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Buffalo First Baptist Church.
