Obituary of John V. Ferretti
John V. Ferretti, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Born to James and Edna Ferretti in Mill Basin, John was a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He was a vibrant presence in the community and a source of joy to all who knew him.
John graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School (57'), furthered his education at Brooklyn College, received on job training at IBM and worked in the computer programming field for 40 years. While employed at Shackman and Co in Manhattan, to which he commuted by bicycle for over a decade, his three boys would enjoy coming to the showroom and playing with the toy collection with him. Being a "big kid" himself, he would regularly come home from work and tell the kids his own made up bedtime stories which would sometimes give them more energy instead of putting them to sleep. When Shackman relocated out of state, John adeptly transitioned to insurance brokerage where he worked until his retirement.
In his free time, John enjoyed bowling in the Flatlands Bowling League for 53 years where he served as treasurer, met many of his closest friends and averaged a 190 game. His summers were spent relaxing and socializing with dear friends and family at Breezy Point Surf Club where he and Dorothy were members. He also joined many hunting outings with the family founded FBP Hunting Club and was thrilled when many of his grandsons joined along.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Dorothy; his three sons, John and his wife, Jennifer, Chris and his wife, Jen, Michael and his wife, Dawn; his cherished grandchildren, Sydnee, Dana, Dante, Hunter, Addisen, Logan, Ainsley, and Lucas; his sister-in-law, Georgeanne DelCanto; his sister, Marilyn; sister-in-law, Debby; and his nieces, Regina, Lynne, Lisa and Renee. John is now reunited with his grandson, Jake, his brothers, James and Robert, his brother-in-law, John DelCanto, sister-in-law, Anita, and nephew "Little" Jimmy, as well as his parents.
Known as the life of the party and a true legend, John's generous spirit and loving nature touched the hearts of many. His laughter and warmth created countless memories, and he will be terribly missed by family and friends alike. As we celebrate his remarkable life, we raise a glass and do one more Ferretti Twirl for John, Dad, Papa, Coach, and our Chairman of the Board. His legacy of love and joy will continue to inspire us.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Something that Grandpa and I always shared together during the year was football. Every Thursday, Sunday, and Monday we would text about the games, especially the teams that played bad. Which was usually the Jets every Sunday. Talking to
Grandpa about a sport that we both love and enjoy was something I would never take for granted,
I will miss, think, and cherish those moments for the rest of my life.

One of my favorite memories was when I watched The Man from Uncle with my grandpa and grandma and it was such a good movie. I remember grandma fell asleep and it was just my grandpa and I watching it until the very end. Before watching the movie my grandpa was watching his detective shows and I gave him a look and he knew right away to change it because he knew I wouldn´t have paid any attention to it. Another favorite memory of mine was when I surprised my grandpa when I came to visit him. I was outside the pool house and my dad Facetimed him and showed him where we were and his jaw dropped he was so surprised. Not only was he surprised I had never seen him so amazed and happy.

Papa always knew how to crack us up. Whether it was bedtime stories that ended in giggles, playing in the sand, or munching on Cinderella waffles and purple pancakes that Grandma whipped up when I stayed over. He'd always joke about us sneaking "worms" into them. He used to watch Disney Channel with me, or as he called it, "ears." Cinderella was always on repeat, and as I got, it was all about Hannah Montana and he sat through ever. Being the first grandchild, I've had Papa for an amazing 24 years. Every time I went to my grandparents' house, I felt nothing but love and comfort. Thank you, Grandma and Papa, for always being there for me.

Something so small but so important that papa taught me was how to swing a swing. When i used to goto Breezy point and hangout with papa at the cabana he brought me to the swings with my sister. When we got there he noticed we kinda sucked at swinging and he taught us how to push ourselves and swing. It´s such a little thing but it´s important and memorable to me.

My first clear memory of my grandpa was the bedtime stories he used to read me. He would always tell me about these three worms named eekie sicky and wicky. These were his own original stories and they made my childhood so amazing.

I will always remember when i would visit and papa would wave with his fingers flared out and say hallllllooooo. I also could never forget his laugh which was so unique but made the room so joyful.
