John Joseph Veit 76 passed away suddenly on March 25, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 13, 1948 to Millie and Otto Veit.
John began his life in German Village, later moving further East where he attended Corpus Christi School. At school he played football and joined the Boy Scouts, Later, John attended South High School graduating in 1966. While at South, John met his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Jeannette O'Harra. John and Carolyn married on June 19, 1971 at St. Mary Church in German Village. The couple had 3 children: Amy, Joseph, and John.
John dealt with life with much humor. He was a family man. His favorite activities involved the family especially the children. John attended sporting events, music concerts, Art shows, and both Girl and Boy Scouts. John was a thoughtful man who made several stops a week to see his mother so that she was able to be independent for many years. He was the kind of guy who warmed up his wife's car on cold mornings and who would notice his wife's activities and would show up with just the right thing to make her life easier. And you could always rely on John to make a pointedly humorous comment when life got tough.
John became a printer and worked for Xerox for 18 years where many educational materials including The Weekly Reader were printed. When Xerox closed their printing shop on Fairwood Avenue, John went to work for OSU. There he ran the Printing Shop in the College of Architecture and Engineering. Eventually John became an accountant for the OSU Research Foundation. John retired from OSU 16 years ago.
