On the evening of June 17, 2025, "Jo Carol" Kovacevich passed away at home, comforted by her husband. She was 78 years old.
She is survived by her husband Michael and two loving children, her son Daniel Joseph (Denise) and daughter Jennifer Michelle (Evan). She is also survived by grandchildren Melissa, Kristen, and Michael; preceded in death by her granddaughter Angela; and survived by four great grandchildren.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 4, 1947, the only child of William and Josephine (neé Heffernan) Thomas. She attended St. Francis of Assisi grade school, afterwards graduating from Kenwood High School.
She and Michael were married on June 12, 1978.
Never afraid to try something new and always eager to learn, Carol held a diverse array of jobs over the course of her life. In addition to holding a Cosmetologists license, and later, a Realtor's license, she worked as a switchboard operator, a sales person in a pond and garden store, worked for a nursery creating displays of plants in local stores and as a veterinary receptionist.
While her diverse work record kept her busy, she always had time for her children. Whether helping with homework, extracurricular activities, providing parental guidance, or just being there with a "Mom" hug, she always had time to spend with her children.
She loved gardening and floral design, needlework crafts, and making stained glass art. She had a profound fondness for all types of animals, especially dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Her pets, mostly rescues, were a great source of joy in her life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter in her name.
