Juanita Louise Edwards, known as "Maw Nita" by her beloved grandchildren, gained eternal rest at 4:15 AM on Friday, September 20th, 2024, at the age of 86. She was the last surviving of four children born to the late Francis Henry and Emma Louise (Price) Hammonds. Juanita was born on Friday, July 22nd, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She lived most of her life in Morgan County, Indiana, and graduated from Eminence High School. She worked in Indianapolis after high school for several years and in 1981, she became a licensed real estate agent. Juanita was a successful and well-respected realtor in Morgan County. She worked for several years for Coldwell Banker-Dunn Realty and later Ritter Realty, both in Martinsville; retiring from real estate in 2005.
She was a dedicated member of Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville where she was actively involved in various church activities and most importantly, the church prayer groups. Juanita loved her church and church family. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, all types of crafting, writing poetry, and traveling. Above all, she cherished her family, and she had a love for dogs.
She is survived by a host of loving family and dear friends including her daughter, Kelly (husband, Roger) Craven of Martinsville; son, Joshua (wife, Lea Ann) Edwards of Martinsville; daughter-in-law, Penny Edwards of Martinsville; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Edwards, who died exactly three years prior to her on September 20th, 2021; two brothers, Franklin L. and Estel Dale Hammonds; and one sister, Armeita Hammonds.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and from 10:00 am -11:00 am on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Chris Page will conduct a service celebrating Juanita's life and legacy on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Hilldale Cemetery in Martinsville following the funeral service.
