Services for Dr. Larry L. McKinney will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with Rev. Pup Rogers officiating.Dr. Larry L. McKinney was born August 23, 1938 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to James Vester "Butch" McKinney and Opal Ruth (Smith) McKinney. He passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at his home near Mason, Oklahoma at the age of 86.Dr. McKinney was a 1956 graduate of Okemah High School. He later received his bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University with a masters and doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. He had a long career in education having taught at Wewoka and Norman. He was a former Okemah Middle School Principal and professor teaching science at Oklahoma Baptist University. Dr. McKinney also was the State Science Supervisor for 10 years. He and Vicky Pearl Peen were married in 1961. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Ann Armstrong and one brother Ron McKinney.Survivors include his wife, Vicky of the home; two sons, Kris McKinney and wife Tara of Peyton, Colorado and Jim McKinney of Tulsa; one daughter, Jamie Schmidt and husband Joey of Norman, Oklahoma and two grandchildren, Daniel and Samuel Schmidt.Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma.Donations, in memory of Dr. McKinney, may be made to the Okfuskee County Historical Center.Online condolences may be made at www.ParksBrothersFuneralHome.com.
