Lucille Madie Johnson was born October 6th, 1921, to Hulda "Diedrich" and. Rufus Boham Lucille lived a life filled with warmth, love and family for 102 years. Leaving us after a short, yet devastating illness on January 13th, 2024.
As a child Lucille and her family would live in many rural houses around Woods County. Lucille enjoyed school but her help was needed at home. After completing the 8th grade, she stayed home to help care for her younger siblings. While her three brothers were over seas during World War II. Lucille and her sister, Ruth, assumed their roles on the farm including harvesting the crops.
On December 13th, 1942, Lucille married Wilbert Ode Johnson. Together they purchased their one and only home in 1944. With help from their brothers and sisters they hand dug a full basement. For nearly 80 years family and friends from all over gathered for holidays, birthdays, funerals, game nights and even the occasional perm party.
Many people still remember Lucille from her 44 years at TG&Y. where she was known for her strong work ethic, even temper, and friendly demeanor.
Her greatest joy came from her son, Gilbert Leon, who completed their family after 19 years of infertility. Lucille and Gilbert shared a special bond. She couldn't have been prouder of the man and father he became.
In her spare time Lucille enjoyed traveling with family, sewing, crafts, playing cards and gardening well into her 90's. Above all else Lucille was a devoted wife, loving mother, favorite aunt, good friend and the most wonderful grandmother. She touched the lives of many people with her kindness and generosity. After retirement Lucille cherished all the time she spent with her grandsons, playing games, reading books, sewing their Halloween costumes, and cooking their favorite meal of fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did.
During her life she suffered a lot of loss. Losing Wilbert and all her brothers, sisters, and their spouses. Her greatest loss though came in 2016 when Gilbert lost his over a yearlong battle with cancer.
She leaves behind both her grandsons, Jared Johnson and Fiancé Lacie Allen, Landon and Kieara Johnson; three great granddaughters, Keagan, Evelyn and Ellie Johnson; several nieces and nephews and Kathi Harvey a very dear friend.
Lucille's Legacy of love, kindness and selflessness will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed.
