Matthew Cory McCory, age 33, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Matthew spent many hours studying God's word, and he was baptized by his daddy on July 9, 2017. Matthew loved Jesus and was so happy to live for Him. He shared his love for God with his friends and family. Matthew had great faith throughout his life's journey, not shedding a tear or even becoming anxious about his health. He was a brave, beautiful soul.
Matthew graduated from Brownstown Central High School. After graduating from high school, he held several different jobs. He worked construction and had a factory job, but seven years ago it became evident that he had a brain tumor. Matthew had debilitating seizures and headaches that forced him to become a prisoner of sorts, being unable to do the things he loved, but he learned to become content and at peace in any situation because of his love for God.
Matthew loved sports. He especially loved baseball, as he started playing from peewee league and played all the way through high school. He enjoyed hunting, as he could shoot a bow and arrow when he could barely walk. In addition, Matthew had a passion for music - country, rock, and gospel, and he loved going to concerts.
Matthew also loved children, and they loved him. He had a special way with animals. Birds would come to him and let him pet them, and hummingbirds would eat from his hands. He also loved horses, dogs, and cats. Matthew leaves behind his beloved dog, Zena.
At just a young age, Matthew captured the hearts of all who knew him. Born on April 5, 1990, in Seymour, he was the son of James Morris and Faye Simpson McCory, both of whom survive in Brownstown.
Survivors also include one brother, James Scott (Abby) McCory; many cousins, who loved him like a brother; many wonderful, faithful friends (afraid we will leave some out if we mention names); many aunts and uncles who adored him; and a special young man, who was like a son to him, Bentley Simmons.
Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James A. and Carolyn Ira McCory; and his maternal grandparents: Omer and Minnie Simpson, and Lloyd and Kaye Tompkins.
