The family is requesting that visiting hours be observed at the Matthews Funeral Home in Gueydan, La on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A rosary will be recited on Monday at 6:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM and proceed until her services at 1:00 PM. Reverend Stephen Irudayasamy will be officiating her services. Interment will follow her services at the Gueydan Cemetery.
Ms. Meceal was born on April 1, 1930, in Crowley, LA to the late Villere Hollier of Abbeville, LA and Agnes Guidry of Kaplan, LA. Meceal dedicated herself to her vocation as an editor and publisher for the Gueydan Journal. She also shared her kindness and care as a dance teacher for many years. Beyond her professional pursuits, she had an immense passion for painting. A devoted mother and grandmother whose heart overflowed with love for her family and friends. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on in the lives of her daughters and grandchildren.
Meceal is survived by her three daughters, Margaret Hoffpauir, Ellen Smith and Celia Jackson; one brother, Larry Hollier MD (Diana); six grandchildren, Larry Breaux Jr., Glen Breaux, Adrienne Clark, Jonathan Derek Hoffpauir, Victoria Lewis and Kara Ponzo, her ten great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Villere Hollier and Agnes Guidry Hollier; one grandchild, Jamie Neal Smith and one great grandchild, Alyson Paige Breaux.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home LLC, 514 Second Street Gueydan, LA 70542
