Michael J. Daughety M.D., affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, in Carrollton, TX. Born on December 2, 1941, in Brownwood, TX, Mike's journey through life was marked by dedication, compassion, and a remarkable sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. He was a man whose loving nature, generosity, and wit left an indelible mark on his family, friends, and the medical community.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah Daughety, and their children: Michael D. Daughety and his wife Aimee, Richie Freestone and his wife Angelica, Stacey Wilson, and Shelley Brock and her husband James. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Brayden Clakley, Avery Clakley, Caitlin Hasley and her husband James, Shane Hoya and his wife Liz, Lane Melton, Jacob Brock and his wife Lauren, Joshua Brock, Jordan Degard and her husband Christian, as well as his adored great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr and Mrs. J. Daughety and brother Don. He is survived by his brother, Ted Daughety M.D., who shared his dedication to the medical profession.
A lifelong learner, Mike's educational accomplishments were extensive. He graduated from the University of Houston, then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. His commitment to excellence in his field was further demonstrated by his Anesthesia Residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX, followed by a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Children's Medical Center, also in Dallas.
Mike's career in medicine was both distinguished and impactful. As an Eagle Scout at the tender age of 14, he demonstrated early on his commitment to service and leadership. He served his country with honor as a Major in the U.S. Army for eight years. Following his military service, he dedicated 50 years to the practice of Anesthesia, where his skills and compassionate care touched the lives of countless patients. His leadership roles included serving as President of Medical Staff at Baylor Medical Center of Irving, Chair of the Membership and Credential Committee, and Chair of the Physician Health Committee.
His interests outside of medicine were as varied and rich as his professional life. An avid photographer, Mike captured the beauty of the world around him, sharing his passion with those he loved. His love for fishing provided him with serene moments of reflection, and his travels with family and friends created memories that spanned the globe. These interests were more than hobbies; they were extensions of his generous spirit and his quest for the beauty in life.
Mike lived by the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." In every facet of his life, Mike succeeded by these measures, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of others.
As we bid farewell to Michael J. Daughety M.D., we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. He was a beacon of love and joy to his family, a steadfast colleague in the medical community, and a friend to all. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his contributions to the world will continue to resonate for generations to come. Mike's life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of humor, and the enduring impact of a generous heart.

I met Mike 30+ years ago... he actually turned out to be my mentor here in the Irving area doing Anesthesia. To this day I use a lot of techniques and ideas I got from Mike in my practice. Mike lives on....
