Hamburg, MI
Michael R. Kapp, age 58, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, in Hamburg, MI after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born on October 21, 1965, in Ann Arbor, MI to Alice and Edward Kapp. He was a proud resident of Hamburg, MI and was a 1984 graduate of Pinckney High School. He was an employee at the University of Michigan for 35 years and he completed his career life as a driver for the Blue Bus in the Transportation Services Department.
If Mike wasn't on the go in his bus or car, you could find him planting friends and families' flowers in their yard. Michael loved being outdoors taking care of everyone's gardening and mowing needs. He had many dear friends. His best friend Bonnie was by his side through his cancer diagnosis and fight. She was a support for Michael at many appointments, procedures and everyday life. It was a good day when Mike had a meal at the coney island served by Lori or a dinner at Holiday's Restaurant while visiting with Rob and Jennifer. Mike had a silly sense of humor and his "off the cuff comments" always gave everyone a good laugh. His nieces and nephews often referred to him as "the life of the party." He frequently stated his career at the University of Michigan provided a great life and it was a great place to work. He spoke regularly about the many people he met through the years.
Michael is survived by his mother Alice Kapp; his brother William Kapp (Paula), his sister Barbara Fehn (Roger), brother, Brian St. Louis (Therese), his nieces and nephews, Chelsea Cash (Andrew), Nicholas Oestreich (Molly), Rocco St. Louis and Marina St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Kapp.
Mikes family and friends will gather at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a memorial bench will be dedicated to Mike in one of his favorite locations.

How do I begin to tell the story of how good a friend Mike´s been? We met in the old days when the U of M had two bus departments. Small Buses that belonged to the hospital and Big Buses that served the University. That´s when I first met Mike. Both departments were merged, and Mike needed a Big Bus license. Yes, I gave him his Commercial Driver´s License test, and we were friends ever since.

Mike was the most loyal friend I´ve ever had. When I couldn´t do the lawn and garden work before my knee and hip operations, Mike was there. When Covid hit, Mike was there to help me get what I needed, even for our Covid dinners with friends. When I got Covid, Mike was there at his own risk with food and medicine. When I had my bathroom and windows renovated, Mike was there to help get everything ready for the workmen and put it all back together. With my partner living so far away, I never would have made it without him. He found me everything from a housekeeper to a mason.

I think of all the meals we had together, and the friendship we shared and enjoyed. Mike never knew a stranger. I will really miss you, Mike.
