Colonie - Nicholas J. Maniscalco, 85, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany on December 12, 1939, a son of Nicholas and Antoinette "Ann" (Szelwian) Maniscalco.
Nicholas attended Christian Brothers Academy, where he graduated as a First Lieutenant in 1957. He then pursued architecture at Hudson Valley Community College before deciding to build his career with the Hamilton News Company in Glenmont. Starting as a driver, he worked tirelessly and advanced to General Manager, dedicating 46 years to the company before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Nicholas was the loving husband of Madonna Maniscalco for 63 wonderful years. Together, they built a family filled with love, support, and unwavering devotion. He was the proud father of Bonni (James) Deady, Christine (James) Fisherauer, and Kimberly (Joseph) Fuda. His greatest joy came from being "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren: Nicholas (Caitlyn), Brenden (Amanda), Adam, Olivia, Ellen, and Kael. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Richard.
A hardworking and selfless man, Nicholas always put his family first, doing everything he could to help them succeed. His greatest goal in life was ensuring his children and grandchildren had the best education possible, believing that knowledge was the key to a bright future. He led by example, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to hard work and dedication. Through his own tireless efforts, he instilled a strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren, teaching them the value of perseverance, responsibility, and integrity.
Nicholas was an avid gardener and a skilled craftsman who found joy in creating with his hands. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his family. He was also a proud member of the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society, where he enjoyed spending time with friends and fellow members, often playing bocce at the club.
Nicholas was also blessed by and deeply appreciated his many close friends, neighbors, and relatives, who brought joy and companionship to his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nicholas' family on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie.
