My heart goes out to the entire Mattingly family as they grieve the loss of such an important part of their family. I send my condolences to the family and all his friends.

I was lucky to have had the pleasure of being coached by Coach Mattingly many years ago when I played football for the Hikes Point Lobos. He was my coach for only two years but in those two years as a young boy, he made a life long impact in my life that started with the fact Coach believed in me, and gave me opportunities to play when I was new. Like a good coach, He built my confidence and had a way of calming my nerves as I learned how to play the game. I´m positive I wasn´t the only one he helped over the years because he was a great coach and a good man. I just regret I never got to tell Coach thank you to his face.

Rest easy, Coach! And thank you!
