Robert Anthony Ramirez, 79 years old, passed away peacefully in his home on April 2, 2025. He lived a full life filled with family, friends, and a love for the game of softball. Born in Sacramento, CA, on June 23, 1945, to Manuel and Consuelo (Sanchez) Ramirez, Bob was a beloved son, brother, father, papa, uncle, cousin, coach and friend.
Bob was a loving older brother to Tony (Debbie) and Nita (Randy), and a devoted father to Shannon (Eric), Jodi (Ryan), and Matthew (Donna). He was a cherished papa to his grandchildren: Makenna, Carrigan, Lainee, Jadyn, Madyson, Easton, Emmerson, and Dillon. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his brother.
Bob graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1964 and attended Sacramento City College. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969, where he traveled through Europe playing softball against other military teams. After being honorably discharged, he dedicated his career to the Sacramento Police Department from 1971 until his retirement in 2001. Most of his career was spent working the graveyard shift (9pm – 7am), so that he could be available to coach and support his family.
Bob had a great love for sports, particularly softball. He spent over 40 years coaching for Sacramento Girls Softball, Hiram Johnson/West Campus, and the California Breeze, inspiring and mentoring countless young athletes. He also enjoyed watching all sports on TV, taking trips to Lake Tahoe, and visiting Sutter Creek.
Bob will be deeply missed for his generosity, kindness, and the unwavering love he showed to his family and friends. He was the greatest example of what it means to be a devoted and loving family man.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Saint Mary's Cemetery Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Sacramento Turn Verein starting at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sacramento Police Officers Association (SPOA) or the California Breeze Softball Organization, in Bob's memory.

Dear, sweet Bobby. I'm heartbroken to learn of your passing. You were one of the nicest and honorable men I have ever met. Besides all the great memories of having a few drinks together in our local taverns one other hilarious memory comes to mind. 30 years ago at about 3:00 a.m. I heard a ruckus in my backyard and called 911 and you responded. After an intense investigation you informed me that a couple raccoons had been playing in the my little pool by the footprints that were left. My dear, late husband, Jimmy, would be so saddened also because he very much respected you and very much valued your friendship. You guys take care of each other now. Much love.

I will never forget you my friend. I have so many memories with you to cherish. From golfing, Cookies diner, Giants baseball game Tahoe and flashing your squad light at my house when you came on night duty so we could chat. My favorite memory will always be you giving me a ride home when I hopped into the back of your squad car and said take me home I want to go home and you did. My heart breaks alongside your beautiful family. I love you always Bob
