Robert V. "Bob" West

Robert Vernon 'Bob' West, 80, of Katy, TX passed away May 8, 2025 with family by his side. He was born June 21, 1944 to Vernon O. And Mildred A. (Comeaux) West.
Bob grew up in the Beaumont area where he attended St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School and later French High School. He loved the many summers he spent in Eunice LA with aunts and uncles and cousins and often shared stories from those days.
At 17, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Mayport, Florida where he served on the guided missile destroyer USS Farragut. After serving, he worked as a machinist in both the Houston and Beaumont areas. He became a draftsman and eventually settled in Katy, Tx where he lived for the last 46 years.
A committed and loving husband, father and papaw, the family would often gather at granny and papaws house for the holidays and birthdays. As a longtime parishioner of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and assisted with the RCIA program for several years.
He is preceded in death by his lifelong love, Sondra A. (Maxson) West and survived by his daughter and son-in law Dianna and Rick Linn, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Tarean West and son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Alexandra West, all of Katy. Grand sons and their wives; Matthew and Aiza Linn of Dumaguete Philippines, Michael and Laura Linn of Cypress, Tx and Andrew and Gabriela Linn of Alto, Ga. And five great-granddaughters Kailey, Madison, Molly, Abigail and Paisley.
A Rosary for Bob will be recited on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Schmidt Funeral Home – Katy 1508 East Avenue Katy, TX 77493. A Funeral Mass for Bob will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15 at St. Bartholomew The Apostle Catholic Church in Katy. Rite of Committal follows in Katy Magnolia Cemetery where Bob will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Sondra.
