Lived fully and passionately, radiating love, vitality and commitment to family and friends. Born to Alfred and Rita Roberts in the Bronx, NY; was lovingly raised with two sisters (Diane and Mary), where he learned the richness and importance of family, religion, and kind-heartedness. Steve (Alfred Stephen III) married his soulmate Patricia McFadden in 1967 while attending the University of Dayton. Together they started their family raising 2 sons. His five grandchildren provided a significant amount of joy in his life, and he spent a great deal of time with them whenever possible. "My hero"; "larger than life"; "lit up any room he walked into" were sentiments expressed upon news of his passing.
Steve graduated from South Side High School in Rockville Centre, NY in 1964. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton in 1968. Upon graduation, he proudly served our nation in the United States Army. He then went on to receive his MBA from St. John's University. Steve had a very successful career at New York Telephone, Ohio Bell and Ameritech in Chicago, a trajectory which enabled him to retire early and follow his passion for fitness. He went on to become a licensed personal trainer and easily assumed the role of coach and mentor to many. His proudest athletic accomplishment was achieving the status of Ironman. While living in Boulder, CO he did this by tapping into his competitive nature, and exercising incredible self-discipline and perseverance. He competed in 17 Ironman competitions across the USA – most notably qualifying and completing 6 events in Kona, Hawaii.
Steve is survived by his wife Patty Roberts, sons Alfred Stephen Roberts IV (Karen) Middleton, WI, Scott Thomas Roberts (Amy) of Landenberg, PA, grandchildren Alfred Stephen V, Michael, Abby, Mary, and Maggie Roberts. He is also survived by 2 sisters Diane Hull and Mary Ellen Martin.
Steve and Patty spent their retirement years in Tucson, Arizona where he enjoyed biking, golfing and watching the sun set on the mountains. Steve passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 due to complications of heart surgery.
A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Telephone: 302-239-7100. Visitation is at 9:00 AM followed by Mass at 10:00 AM.

We have so many wonderful memories of our friend Steve during our running years with the Arlington Trotters Running club. We spent many weekends for years participating in races and post race activities. Enjoyed our ski trips to Colorado with so many laughs and après-ski fun. We will miss you Steve! Rest In Peace in God´s loving arms.
