Steven "Steve" James Braun, age 63, of Zionsville, Indiana, peacefully passed away on November 18, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a well-fought battle with cancer.
Steve was born on November 13, 1959 to Amos and Laverne (Beckman) Braun in Jasper, Indiana. After Steve graduated from Jasper High School in 1978, he earned a degree in Economics at Harvard University in Cambridge.
After college, Steve married his middle school sweetheart, Jennifer (Schneider) Braun, and began a successful career working in technology consulting. In 1990, he founded Braun Consulting, taking his company public in 1999 and selling it to Fair Isaac Group in 2004. During this time, Steve acquired land in Dawson Springs, Kentucky and developed a beautiful space for farming, cattle ranching, and recreation that has been enjoyed by family and friends for years. He additionally began land acquisition around the greater Indianapolis area, and went on to form Braun Property Development with his sons and son-in-law. Steve was also passionate about making a positive impact in his community; he served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2012 to 2014, and was appointed Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development in 2014, serving for 3 years.
In 1973, Steve met Jennifer at a middle school dance in the Knights of Columbus basement in Jasper, Indiana. After one night of dancing, the rest is history. Steve & Jennifer went on to have 5 children: Alexandra, Callyn, Jonathon, Adam and Maren. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past June (2022).
In his final years, Steve had ample time to spend doing his favorite things: playing with his grandchildren, taking long motorcycle rides, establishing his reign as the Cinch Grandmaster, mushroom hunting, growing and studying his beloved Purple Martin colonies, and watching the Pacers.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Amos and Laverne (Beckman) Braun. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Schneider) Braun; his five children, Alexandra (Scott) Noel, Callyn (Bill) Riggs, Jonathon (Anna Dykema) Braun, Adam (Claire) Braun, and Maren (John) Jester; his ten grandchildren; his brother, Michael (Maureen) Braun; and his sister Janet (Greg) Ostendorf. A visitation will be held at Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, 125 W. Sycamore Street, Zionsville, IN on Friday, December 2 from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Oaks Academy via the Oaks Fund at Sagamore: https://www.theoaksacademy.org/giving/tax-credits/
