Sue was my mom´s best friend, but to me, she was the first person who showed me what it truly means to support and uplift women-I was just 10 years old.
I vividly remember her cheering from the sidelines at my Coleridge Taylor Elementary basketball games, proud and unwavering, even though I was the only girl on the team. I remember the 4th grade fashion show, when I didn´t want to wear a dress, and Sue looked me in the eye and said, "Next year, you wear what you want." And I did.
That was Sue-genuine, strong, and full of kindness. She saw people for who they were and encouraged them to be exactly that.
To say she will be missed is an understatement. I will carry her spirit with me always, and I will honor her by teaching my daughters the same values she helped instill in me.
Rest easy, Sue. You deserve peace, just as you gave so much of it to others.

Sue was a beautiful person and teacher colleague. She was wise and thoughtful in how she viewed the world and kind to reach out to anyone who was in need of support. For everyone whose life she touched, she will always be loved.

Mrs. Shapland was my favorite elementary teacher. I am so sad to hear the news about her passing. For years I wanted to get in contact and to let her know how much of an impact she had on my life. I am now on my journey to finishing my masters and I now she would've been so proud of me. I'll miss you so so much Mrs Shapland, rest peacefully.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Susan´s passing. I worked across the hall from her for several years at Samuel Coleridge Montessori School and she was a dedicated, inspiring and insightful colleague as well as a devoted teacher to every child she had the privilege to teach. It was obvious to me that she gave her best in all she pursued. Not only did she love her career, but adored her family. May our memories hold us all as we grieve this loss. Tears fill my heart. May her legacy live on through every life she touched. Hugs.

We met Susan many years ago through mutual family. Susan´s son Mike was married to my niece Emily. Susan always wore a huge smile, was engaging in conversations and I just really enjoyed her company the few times I´ve been around her. Her children and grandchildren adored her...that is so apparent and her absence will leave a huge void in their family. I´m so sorry she left us so soon, but it´s a comfort to her family knowing she is with Jesus. Continued prayers for all who loved her.

I am so sorry and shocked for the loss of Sue. We had so much fun for many years at the Skenandoa Club pool . We would stay at each others homes. I knew she would do very well in life. She sure did. My condolences to all her family.

I am shocked and heartbroken to hear of her passing. Sue was truly a bright light in our lives, and this was reflected in her every day. She was loving, kind, compassionate, and giving. She was devoted to those she held dear. Sue had a great sense of humor which was evident in the T-shirt she gave me when I retired that said "I'm retired and you're not, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah". I was so blessed to have more than a working relationship with her and the conversations we shared about our loved ones will always remain treasured memories. Sending love and condolences to her family.

Sue was an amazing person. I was so fortunate to work in the back area of her classroom for several years . We enjoyed many conversations about so many things and she always shared her perspective of "the big picture". She was so kind, welcoming, and generous. Always positive and seeing the good in things. I feel blessed to have shared time with her. My deepest sympathy to all her family.

Susan was an amazing Montessori teacher and mentor! I first had the privilege of working along side her at Children´s House and then for many years at Coleridge Taylor Montessori. She was a tremendous support for students and teachers. My heart goes out to her family.

I'm devastated. We worked together for many years at SCT. I was her assistant for I think five years. We had so much fun together. She was a quirky girl and I loved to egg her on. The stories I could tell! The field trips! The kids that she loved so much as if they were her own. We stayed in touch after we both retired and she was always such a support to me. I'm so sorry for her beloved family of which she was so proud. This one really hurts. Sending my love to you all.
