I served with Tom in Vietnam 1970. He was my mentor and saved my life the first day in the field. We were in Cambodia and I seen a hand written poster that I wanted as a souvenir (really dumb). As I started to jump from the vehicle (M113a) Tom grabbed me and said sternly tat these things are booby trapped!
Seconds later the M113 in front of us hit a mine all hell broke loose and we stared firing in all directions. Tom then swing the M60 machine gun at the poster I wanted and it blew up in spectacular detonation. Thanks Tom for saving my life

I tried to find away to articulate the emotions I feel right now, but I just don't have the vocabulary to do so. Tom was a funny, just, caring, nonjudgemental, self-deprecating and always a helpful man. You knew who Tom was, you didn't have to go looking for answers with him. He will be well placed in heaven. My deepest sympathies go out to those who loved and cared for him. Which should be every person who met Tom.
