Thomas married Carrie E. (Schirl) Chafin on February 27, 1954, in Boston, Massachusetts, and they celebrated 70 years of marriage together. He is survived by his daughters, Patty (Victor) Chafin and Judy (Brad) Warner; grandchildren, Shelly (Shawn) Albertini-Puckett, Michael (Brandi) Albertini, Renee (Brandon) Conley, Tricia (Matt) Crotty, Jennifer Warner, and Jamie Warner; great-grandchildren, Tayler, Antonio, Michelle, Brennan, Liam, Lane, Tehya, Christopher, Riley, Luke, Ellie, Caiden, Dominic, and Lexie; and great-great-grandchildren, Miles and Elinor.
Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carrie Chafin; daughter, Doreen (Mike) Albertini; parents, Albert and Lexie Chafin; and siblings, Aleene (Elza) Smith, Bob (Sharon) Chafin, Jean (Clint) Rushing, Jack (Priscilla) Chafin, Ralph (Violet) Chafin, and Paul (Kathy) Chafin.
Thomas was a dedicated member of his community and church, where he served as head trustee and head usher, and also volunteered at a Billy Graham revival. He cherished his family above all else and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping throughout his life.
In his professional life, Thomas worked at Westinghouse and as a residential painter. He was born and raised in West Virginia, lived in Boston, Massachusetts after marriage, and later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he and Carrie raised their children before settling in Galena, Ohio. For the last four years of his life, he received exceptional care at Capri Gardens Nursing Center in Lewis Center.
Among his proudest achievements were serving his country in the Navy, nurturing his relationship with the Lord, his deep love for his family, and winning the Fishers of Men Bass Tournament. Thomas was known for his infectious smile and warm presence whenever he entered a room.
The family extends special thanks to Capri Gardens Nursing Center and Bella Care Hospice for their compassionate care in Thomas's final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bella Care Hospice. 110 Polaris Pkwy Suite 302, Westerville, OH 43082.

Friends may call on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, located at 637 N. State Rt 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074, with a service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place in Kingwood Memorial Park 8230 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, OH 43035

I remember Tom from when I was a young girl, growing up with the Chafins as neighbors and throughout my adulthood. I remember him as a friendly, kind and caring person. He never failed to greet me with a smile, address me by name, ask how I and my parents were doing and often, told me silly joke.
