William "Bill" Hunt Obituary

William "Bill" Joseph Hunt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on June 21, 1946, in New Albany, Indiana. After an extraordinary life filled with love, pride, and dedication, Bill passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2024, in Greenville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was a proud graduate of New Albany High School, class of 1964. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call of duty and was inducted into the United States Air Force on July 5, 1964. Serving during the Vietnam War, he exhibited remarkable bravery and resilience, rising to the rank of E5 before being honorably discharged in 1972.

For many years, Bill dedicated himself to his career as a supervisor at International Harvester/Navistar, where he earned tremendous respect and admiration from his colleagues. Outside of his work, Bill found joy in gardening, fishing, camping, and hunting. He particularly treasured his moments shooting at his son's compound and loved spending time with his beloved dogs: Scooter, Libby, Tinker, Pepper, and many more. However, nothing brought him more happiness than the precious time spent with his family and friends.

A devoted family man, Bill shared 35 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sue Ella Hunt. Together, they created countless memories that will be cherished forever. He is survived by his son, Timothy J. (Erin) Evans; daughters, Marsha L. (Craig) Evans-Dodd and Brandy J. (Jason) Vires; and step-son, John (Dee) Bridgewater. Bill’s legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy. His siblings, Latrecia Jane (Roy) Donahoe, Michael (MaryAnn) Hunt, Merry Sue Lemmel, and John (Denice) Hunt, also hold dear the memories of their beloved brother. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bill was truly a man of community involvement, proudly serving as a member of The American Legion Post #42, VFW Post #1693, and 40 & 8, reflecting his commitment to both his country and his fellow veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Barbara "Bobbie" Hunt, who, along with the love he cultivated during his lifetime, will welcome him with open arms in the afterlife.

Visitation services will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service honoring Bill's life will follow on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM. A burial will be at a later date in New Albany National Cemetery.

Bill's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will forever live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love spread among those who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

The family requests that contributions in William’s memory be made to American Legion Post #42.
