William J. McLaughlin, "Bill" and most importantly known as "Pop", 87, of Keansburg, NJ, died on February 28, 2025, at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ before retiring to Brick in 2004 and living for the last 13 years in Middletown, NJ. Bill graduated from St Joseph's Grammar School, Jersey City and William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, worked most of his adult life as a Steele Worker for the American Can Company in Hoboken. After his retirement from the Can Company, he kept busy by working for the Jersey City Housing Authority for a period of time.
In his early years he was an avid track and field athlete, baseball and basketball player. Bill played baseball and basketball across Europe for the US Army. He loved Jersey City, the NY Mets, NY Giants, music, dancing, family gatherings, being outside, yardwork, daily walks, and especially sitting in the sun. He had always greeted everyone he met with a handshake and a smile.
Survived by his daughter, Michele Kearney (her husband the late Timothy Kearney); son, Mark McLaughlin (his wife Beth Ann Randall); daughter, Tracie A. Murray (her husband Robert Murray); his grandchildren, Tessa A. Kearney, Maxwel E. Kearney, Mark R. McLaughlin, Kylie K. McLaughlin, and Jillian M. Murray; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis A. (Carone); parents Rose A. (Lanigan) and Francis X. McLaughlin; and by his four brothers, Francis X. Mclaughlin Jr, John (Buster) McLaughlin, George F. McLaughlin, Raymond McLaughlin and three sisters Margaret Hicks, Anne V. Kennedy and Ellen Dato.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 8th at 9:30am at St. Catherine's Church, 110 Bray Ave., North Middletown.

I worked with Dr. McLaughlin over several projects, mostly on Voyager and when he lead the MPSS.
I will always remember his sly smile and the twinkle in his eyes when he made a point.
His expertise, patience and kindness will be missed.
