William "Bill" Alfred Sudduth, 68, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2025. Bill was born and passed away in Riverside Hospital, Newport News. He spent most of his adult life in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Newport News.
A graduate of Old Dominion University, Bill worked for Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach social services departments. He later pursued a career change, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy at MCV in Richmond. His time working as a pharmacist at Hidenwood Pharmacy – one of the last independent drug stores – was the highlight of his career.
Bill married Cynthia "Cindy" in 1991 and the two began what would become a lifetime of world travel, exploration and fun. Although their sightseeing took them around the globe, their favorite trips were a U.S.A. cross-country road trip, that Bill meticulously planned, and a cruise to Norway, Denmark and Iceland. He loved his life with Cindy and their adventures. Bill enjoyed walking the Noland Trail, riding his no-frills bicycle, taking photographs, going to wineries and baseball games, and sitting around the firepit with a glass of Proper Twelve.
Known affectionately as "Mr. Bill" after the SNL character, Bill's unique sense of humor lived up to the originality of the late-night comedy show. No one could rival his knowledge of music trivia. He appreciated all holidays – religious and secular – but reveled in celebrating the pagan ones.
Bill loved to listen to what others had to say. He was a confidant, an adviser, a quiet man and, most of all, a true friend.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy Sudduth; her children, Dana Cox and Anthony Cox (Emily) and grandchildren, Luke and Ava; as well as many good friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Camilla and Joseph Sudduth, and siblings, Henry Sudduth and Audrey Sudduth Rose.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the home of Bill and Cindy's close family friends, Elisa and Pat Finneran, 9915 River Road, Newport News, VA 23601.
Donations in Bill's memory can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or to THRIVE Peninsula, 12749 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23606.
