Michael Hourihan Obituary
Mike was born on Feb. 6, 1978, in Hartford, during the blizzard of '78. His infectious smile and Irish wit always left a wake of new friends and laughter wherever he went. Whether you needed a Netflix recommendation, his truck to help with a move, or an appetizer for a party, Mike would always deliver. He was passionate about his sports and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, UConn Huskies, and Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers. Mike also enjoyed music, stand-up comedy, attending concerts, commandeering jukeboxes at local establishments, cooking, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. Mike was a member of the Class of 1996 at East Windsor High School. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Marine Biology and later went on to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he earned his MS in Fisheries Management. He was employed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in St. Peterburg, Florida as a Fisheries Biologist.
He leaves his mother, Jeannette Ryan (Dennis) of Somers; sister Patricia Weldon (Gregg), of Bluffton, South Carolina, brothers John Hourihan (Marilyn) of Stafford, and Thomas Hourihan (Kerry), of Fort Myers, Florida. He also leaves a niece, Stephanie (Jay); nephews Stephen, Mitchell, and Finnian; and great-nephew Gentry. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Hourihan.
Per his wishes, Michael will have a private burial at sea.
The family plans to hold celebrations of Mike's life in Florida and Connecticut at a future time.

To the family I am so so sorry for your loss...I am still in disbelief that he is gone. I have been praying and will not stop. Mike came into my life right when covid hit and were were literally locked down together for at least 6 weeks we had so much fun when the world was going crazy around us. My heart is broken He was one of the most caring , loving, funny people I have ever met in my life and I will be forever grateful that I got to spend the time with such a wonderful soul.

Words can´t express my sadness. Mike wasn´t just my friend, he was a brother to me and his family my second family. So many memories and so many moments spent together.

Sending prayers and condolences to the family. Sorry to hear the sad news about Mike. I was a coworker and friend of Mike's and he always brought a smile to my face. I have fun memories of him from work, my retirement party, seeing him at music events and trivia on Tuesdays. He will be missed.
