Anthony P. "Tony" Lizio (also known as "Popola" and "Uncle T"), age 90, a resident of Lisle, IL since 2009, formerly of Chicago and Wheaton, IL, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 7, 1934, in Chicago.
Beloved husband of Theresa Lizio (nee Lencki), whom he married on October 27, 1974, loving father of Theresa (Anders) Sorensen of Wheaton, IL and Nicole "Nikki" (Michael) Laughlin of Grand Rapids, MI, adored grandfather of Anton, Annika, Emma and Eloise Sorensen; Thomas "Tommy", Michael and Elizabeth "Lizi O" Laughlin, devoted son of the late Anthony and late "Mama" Celeste Lizio, dear brother of the late Emanuel "Willie" (Marilyn) Lizio, the late Pasquale "Pat" (the late Patricia) Lizio and the late Clara (the late Rudolph, Sr. "Rudy") Melchiorre, son-in-law of the late Albert, Sr. and Vera Lencki, brother-in-law of Al (Sheila) Lencki, fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle and friend of many.
Tony grew up on Chicago's West Side, attended Mother of Sorrows Elementary School, Blue Island, IL and St. Philip High School, Chicago.
Tony began his work career with Celeste Frozen Foods in Chicago and went on to own and operate various restaurants, delis, and pizzerias in the Chicagoland area. He later joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 714 in 1987 and retired in 2007.
A visitation will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, 4:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60540.
Family and friends will meet Tuesday, September 17, to celebrate a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church, 101 W. Loop Rd, Wheaton, IL 60189, (630) 384-0123, with Fr. John Ouper officiating.
Entombment: Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
