Barbara Ann Marini (McBryan) passed away October 24th, 2024 at her home due to cancer and her age. She was the loving wife and best friend to her husband Joseph. They were married in Philadelphia in 1970. Joseph knew the very first night they met that they would marry, telling his friend," Do you see that girl I was talking to tonight? I am going to marry her." A year later his intention was realized.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Joseph Marini of De Forest, Wisconsin and Paul Marini, of Newtown, PA and two daughters-in-law, Carol Marini and Anja Marini as well as two grandsons, Michael and Daniel of Wisconsin. Her family was her greatest joy.
Barbara was a graduate of Milton High School, PA in 1963. She attended Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing obtaining an RN in 1967. She began her career as an Emergency Room nurse then worked at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and later as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Philadelphia. She obtained her BSN from La Salle University in 1990 graduating Magna Cum Laude. Barbara's desire to teach nursing and specialize in geriatric care motivated her to receive her Master's Degree in Nursing from Gwynedd-Mercy University in 1997, and she received Board Certification as a Clinical Nurses Specialist in Gerontology from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2000, Barbara was honored by the Alumni Association of Gwynedd-Mercy University receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement after publishing her nursing research in the Journal of Gerontological Nursing in May, 1999.
Barbara was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing and the American Holistic Nursing Association. The last 25 years of her 46 years in nursing was spent in nursing education and administration. She taught for the Continuing Education Department for Nursing at Bucks County Community College for 13 years and for Eastern School of Arts and Technology. Barbara retired in 2012 from her position as Administrator of ACTS Health Institute, a division of ACTS Retirement-Life Communities.
Barbara served as a deacon at the Presbyterian Church of Bensalem till 1997 when she moved. Later she joined Covenant Church of Doylestown until moving to Normandy Farms Estates where she continued to find ways to serve.
As a cancer survivor, Barbara provided support to many on their cancer journey and offered her skills as a Meditation and Reiki Master Practitioner to cancer clients and their families, volunteering for Cancer Support Service of Philadelphia at the Doylestown Hospital and Gilda's Club in Warminster from 2013-2020.
She was loved by her family and friends and generously returned that love in many selfless ways. She loved to mentor, encourage and assist others in achieving their goals and potential. As a member of the Peace Center, she offered support to local peacemaking events and worked to help bring nonviolent social activism to the marginalized. Her motto was, "Be the peace you wish to see in the world." As a member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense she worked with others to bring about legislation in PA to get guns removed faster from domestic abusers and marched with students organized against school violence.
She loved her OA friends, calling them her second family and wants to thank them for all the love and support over 48 years of fellowship.
Born in Danville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marie Mc Bryan of Milton, PA. She has two brothers, Thomas McBryan, and Brian McBryan and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive their friends at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 pm. A service will begin at 8:00 pm during this time period.
A second visitation will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 am. A graveside service will follow immediately at Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine Cemetery, Doylestown, PA at 11:45 am.
