Chester N. Stroupe, 70, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Alden Village Nursing Home in McHenry, where he had resided for the past several years.

Chet was born in Chicago on May 27, 1954 to C. Ronald Stroupe and Dorothy (Olson) Stroupe. He grew up in his father's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. When he was 12 years old and after his father remarried, he moved to Huntley Illinois, where he graduated from Huntley High School in 1973. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served in Omaha, Nebraska, leaving the service with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Chet had many challenges in his life. He always met them with optimism and hope. He was knowledgeable on many subjects, an avid reader, and had a great memory. He was polite, a loyal friend, and never had an unkind word for anyone. Chet had a great sense of humor and was well liked by all who knew him. He was a favorite at Alden Terrace, and his caregivers share in his loss. He will be greatly missed. He loved his family and remembered even the smallest details about his step cousins and their lives.

Chet is survived by his brother Greg and his step cousins; John (Judy Gundy) Dwyer, Maureen (Keith) Kestner, Ellen (Michael) Zenker, Tom (Tanya) Dwyer, and Katy Dwyer as well as 13 step nieces and nephews. Chet was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his stepmother Mary Dwyer Stroupe.

Services and burial with Military Honors will be private. In lieu of flowers, spend a little time with someone who needs some company and support. We did with Chet, and he gave back more than anything he received from us.
