Clardine Jones Sumners, 84, of Leawood, KS (formally of Alexander City, AL) passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at the Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
Clardine was born on April 8, 1941 in Alexander City, AL the daughter of Clarence P. and Geraldine M. Jones. She graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in 1959. Clardine married Bobby H. Sumners shortly after high school in 1960. In 1972, they welcomed their only child, Brandi Sumners Schudy.
Clardine worked for Russell Corporation at Focus Factory commonly referred to as Mill #9, serving as an administrative assistant for 43 years. She performed these duties well because of her congenial personality, organizational skills, her character, along with the utmost integrity and because of these values made many friends and life long connections.
Remaining to cherish Clardine's memory are daughter, Brandi Sumners Schudy (Chris); grandchildren, Topher, Claire, Frank, and Alexandra Schudy; nephew, James Dodwell (Cameron); niece, Lewis Ann Rhoades ( Byron); nephew, Jerry Dodwell ( Becky); and great nephew, Jordan Dodwell (Jes) and their children. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her sister, Peggy Dodwell, and her loving husband of 24 years.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her supportive group of friends Susie Kelly, Darlene Williams, Janet Holmes, Emmett Crowe along with all the others who were part of her life at Grace's Flowers, life-long friends Glenda Fay and Rodney Jones, special friends Joyce Daniel, and her daughters, Tracy Roberts and Tanya Meadows, adopted nephew, Mark Speaks, Joey and Heather Vickers, caregiver and friend Pat Machen, and all of the other people who were supportive in her life.
We would also like to thank the entire care team with Saint Luke's Hospice and the staff at Saint Luke's Hospice House of Kansas City.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on June 14, 2025 at Hillview Memorial Park in Alexander City, AL with a celebration of life to follow at Jake's Restaurant, downtown Alexander City.
