Connie Elaine Mefford, 78, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2025, at Vanderbilt Hospital. She was born on February 1, 1947, in Shelbyville, KY, to the late Francis "Fran" Markham and Linwood Nease.
Connie graduated from Atherton High School in 1965 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Murray State University in 1969. She dedicated 44 years of her life to nursing, and serving patients with compassion at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, KY.
Connie had a deep love for life. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and friends, reading with her book club, and cooking. An avid tennis player for over 50 years, she also loved playing bridge. Known for her friendly nature, Connie never met a stranger. She was brave, strong, competitive, funny, quirky, and endlessly talkative-but above all, she was loving and devoted to her family.
One of her greatest joys was visiting Disney World with her children and grandchildren. Connie shared 41 beautiful years of marriage with her best friend and beloved husband, Ron Mefford, whom she married in 1984 in Louisville, KY.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Mefford; two daughters, Joanna Thomson (Brian) of Nashville, TN, and Michele Barber (Will) of Louisville, KY; two stepsons, Mark Mefford (Monica) of Corbin, KY, and Michael Mefford (Jamie) of Johnson City, TN; and seven grandchildren: William Barber (20), Whitney Barber (18), Kyle Thomson (19), Lucy Kate Thomson (15), Lily Mefford (19), Graham Mefford (17), and Maxwell Mefford (12).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville, 12900 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40243. Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

I am so sorry for this terrible loss to your family. I am unable to attend the visitation or funeral, but I did want to express to the family how much I admired Connie´s courage, determination and positive attitude. I was captain of a team in which she was a member and I could always count on her to be cooperative and to do her best. She was a very unselfish team member. Connie will be missed dearly by all the many who knew and loved her. You have my deepest sympathy. Sending love and prayers to the family.
