On May 9, 2025, Dr. David Keith Bush of Ashland, Kentucky, stepped into the presence of his Savior, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, extraordinary love, and a life fully lived in service to others. Born on December 7, 1962, David was more than a gifted physician-he was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and servant of Christ whose influence reached far beyond what can be measured.
David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Peggy Ann Bush and Ernest Eugene Bush. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kimberly Ann Bush; his children, David Bush Jr. and Rachael Bush Woford (Clay); and his treasured grandchildren, Brooks Clayton Woford and Oliver David Woford, who lovingly called him Poppy. He is also survived by his brothers, John Bush (Gina) and Mike Bush (Claudia); his nephews Kyle Bush (Sarah) and Johnny Bush (Shaina); his great nephews and niece Kayden, Jensen, and Joslyn; and brothers-in-law Mark Roberts and Todd Luckey. The love for his family was evident to all who knew him.
He grew up in Ashland and graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School in 1980. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Biology-Chemistry from the University of Kentucky in 1984 and his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Louisville in 1988. He began his career in private practice with Dr. Charles "Charlie" Rhodes from 1994 to 2009, before continuing his service at King's Daughters Medical Center. Dr. Bush was a renowned cardiologist, but his true gift was the way he ministered through medicine. He was known for his quiet compassion, praying for his patients, offering comfort in their darkest moments, and reflecting the love of Christ through every diagnosis and decision.
Beyond the hospital walls, David's passion for Christian education burned brightly. As Chairman of Rose Hill Christian School for over two decades, he helped shape young lives for Christ. He didn't just lead-he poured himself into the school, mentoring, praying, dreaming, and laboring with a heart full of purpose. He believed in raising up the next generation to know and follow Jesus, and he lived that mission every day. He was a dedicated member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He led with humility, vision, and grace and his steady presence and godly wisdom left a lasting mark on all who served with him.
David's calling extended internationally to Romania, where he built deep and enduring relationships through mission work that was as heartfelt as it was hands-on. Over more than two decades, David led teams to the region of Jibou on over 20 mission trips, helping plant churches, build ministries, fund missionaries, and form lifelong relationships. During home visits, he often carried his stethoscope and blood pressure cuff, diagnosing and caring for people freely, using his medical gifts as a ministry tool. He loved his Romanian family fiercely, and his work there is a living testimony of God's love without borders.
Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul now rejoicing in eternal glory. David's legacy is not only found in his medical practice, his church leadership, or his mission work. It is most deeply rooted in the love he poured into his family. Those who knew him knew a man of integrity, quiet strength, and deep faith. He was the kind of man whose life made others want to live better, love deeper, and walk more closely with God.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church and on Saturday, May 17th at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of David's life at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Matt Shamblin and Dr. Mike Routt officiating. The burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to two ministries David dearly loved: the Romanian Ministry and Rose Hill Christian School. Donations can be made payable to Rose Hill Baptist Church and designated accordingly.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
