David Grant Littleton 1939-2024
David Grant Littleton, of Grayson, died January 17, 2024 at his home in Gregoryville, Ky
He was born May 21, 1939, in Grayson, Kentucky, a son of the late Gomez and Clara Stamper Littleton. He was preceded in death by his parents Gomez and Clara Stamper Littleton, a younger brother, Larry Benton Littleton, his brother and wife, Dr. Willis Calvin and Mary Jo (Claypool) Littleton of Grayson, sister Clara Faye Kirk Farris of Louisville, TN, brothers-in-law Bob Kirk, Chet Farris of CA, sister-in-law Lorraine (Garcia) Littleton, and brother-in-law Harry Lee Brown of Grayson.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Mary Martha (Smith) Littleton, two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth (Chris) Hines, of Lexington, KY, Allison Elaine Brumfield, of Ashland, sister Patty Jean Littleton Brown of Grayson, two brothers Zane Craig Littleton of Orangevale, CA, and Gomez Gale (Rosemary) Littleton of Grayson. Two grandsons, Nathan Hines of Grayson and Matthew Hines of Lexington, granddaughter Rebekah ZinNian Hines, two step-granddaughters Ashley (Jason) Friend of Richmond and Kristina Hines of Lexington, and three great-grandchildren Houston, Kylie and Julian Friend.
He was a graduate of Morehead State University earning an AB, and MA in Education, and a MA in Linguistics. He held 8 certifications in Education: Superintendent, High School and Elementary Education Principals, High School and Elementary Teachers, High School and Elementary Education Supervising Teacher, and Rank I.
He was Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society, an education fraternity. Its membership is limited to the top 20 percent in the field of education.
He was a Sergeant in the U S Army, 44th Finance, as a military pay specialist, stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany, and served during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and retired from the Carter County Board of Education.
He felt that his greatest accomplishment in his life was the writing of the "15 Articles of Faith" from the teachings of the elders that had been the religious foundation of the Gregoryville Christian Church since its beginning September 3, 1803. It was unanimously adopted by the church board and congregation.
David had a good friend ask him if he believed that there was such a thing as an eternal lake of fire. His answer was that they were standing over one, the earth's core, and looking at another, the sun. That two eternal lakes of fire were enough for him to believe that there are eternal lakes of fire. The friend then asked what kept them burning. David replied, "SINNERS!"
