Diane E. O'Keefe, 89, of Swampscott, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston.
Diane was born in Boston on January 21, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Dorothy (McTague) Prew.
Diane was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1952. She later graduated at Salem State University with a degree in Education and worked as a second grade elementary teacher at the Broad Street Elementary School in Lynn. She was an avid reader and oil painter who was also a published author and wrote for the Lynn Item and Salem Daily News. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, tap dancing, ice skating, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Diane was the loving mother of Michael S. O'Keefe and his wife Donna of Cranston, RI., Robin L. McLaughlin and her husband William of Norton, and Helen Papele and her husband Chuck of Swampscott. She was the cherished grandmother of Ashley O'Keefe, Daniel O'Keefe, Patrick O'Keefe, Taylor McLaughlin, Connor McLaughlin, Griffin McLaughlin, Katie Papele and Nick Papele. She is also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings the late Barbara Davis and the late Paul Prew.
A graveside service will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd., Medford on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11am. Arrangements are in the care of the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, (Rt 129), Lynn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Diane's name to Hope Hospice, 1324 Belmont St #202, Brockton, MA 02301.
