Dorothy (Forbes) "Dottie" Enes, of South Windsor and Ellington, beloved wife for over 66 years of the late William "Bill" Enes, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Dottie was born in Meriden, daughter of the late Donald and Ella (Beal) Forbes, and graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford and was a member of the National Honor Society. She proudly served her country during World War II as a Link Trainer Instructor in the United States Navy "WAVES." While raising five children, Dorothy was employed with various Insurance companies as a Key Punch Operator and retired after many years of service from the State of Connecticut. She was a founding member and faithful communicant of St. Luke Church in Ellington and a proud member of the Waves National and the American Legion. She and Bill were also co-founders and active members of the Ellington Senior Center, where she oversaw their activities and planned all their trips and outings.
Dottie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will fondly be remembered as a hardworking and determined woman who loved her family more than anything. Dottie was fiercely independent and was a feminist well before it was popular. She loved being in charge and always stood up for what she believed in. Dottie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved celebrating all their accomplishments. She leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
Dottie enjoyed bowling, both Duckpin and Ten Pin, and spent many hours playing in leagues with her family and friends. She loved to cross-stitch and crochet. She took pleasure in making beautiful items for her family. Dottie enjoyed teaching others to appreciate her hobbies as well. She also loved to collect ornate Christmas items and had a large collection of Carousel memorabilia.
Dottie leaves to celebrate her life, her children, Cheryl Soltysik of Wallingford, William Henry "Skip" Enes, III, and his wife Janet of Ellington, Mary Ellen Krechko and her husband Mark of Tolland, James L. Enes of Vernon, and John R. Enes and his wife Michele of
