G. Paul Nungester, 66, of Lima, passed away on August 29, 2024 at his home in Shawnee. He was born to his loving parents, Gilbert & Miriam Nungester, on April 2, 1958.
Paul was a 1976 graduate of Bath High School. He then went on to serve as a Combat Controller in the United States Air Force from 1976 – 1980. Whether he was being a rather vocal spectator or actively participating, Paul loved sports. He was an avid supporter of The Ohio State Buckeyes & the Minnesota Vikings.
In his free time, Paul enjoyed spending time with family. Most recently you could catch him in the Delaware/Columbus area going to dinner with Brad & Jenna or with Mindy & his grandsons going to the Columbus Zoo, Legoland, or the fair. He also spent most evenings with his mother Miriam having dinner at his brother Hal's house.
One of the causes closest to his heart was Second Chance Ministries through Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Bluffton. He served as a chaplain, building relationships and sharing Christ with people at the truck stop in Beaverdam. Since his passing, the family has received calls from recipients of Paul's kindness through this ministry who were greatly impacted by his service and friendship.
Speaking of friendship If you knew Paul, you knew his antics. He was known to have a bit of a childish side, often teasing anyone who happened to be nearby. His jokes were of the "dad joke" variety, yet he was rather proud of himself even if no one cracked a smile. He raised his kids right in the ways of pranks & shenanigans and was beginning to teach the same to his grandchildren.
His memory is carried on by his mother, Miriam Rardin; his children Stephen (Tennie) Nungester, Bradley (Jenna) Nungester, Caitlin (Eric) Zimmerman; and his two very ornery, yet extremely loved grandchildren, Arlo & Luca. Also cherishing his memory is Mindy Nungester; although their marriage ended, the love & friendship between them endured. Others remembering Paul are his brother Hal (Chris) Nungester, sister Michele (Joseph) Wassink, brother Larry (Linda) Joyner, and countless nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Nungester.
Visitation will be held on September 5, 2024 at Bayliff & Son in Cridersville from 2-5pm with funeral service to follow. Due to his family living in different cities, they have chosen cremation. Therefore, there will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Ministries or Honor Flight Network in Paul's memory.
Paul's family has one request of those left behind to carry on his legacy; please take care of yourself. See a doctor immediately if anything at all seems wrong. However minute the problem may seem, it is important to address health concerns sooner rather than later. When it comes to your health, stubbornness gets you nowhere, other than maybe into a casket. Your friends & family need you around & healthy to create more memories.
