Robert "Hob" Mason, 74, passed away at home in Pocomoke, Maryland on August 3, 2024.
Hob was born December 11, 1949 in Pocomoke to the late William and Florence Mason. He attended Pocomoke High School before serving in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed his service mentality, dedication to healthy eating and exercise, and immense capacity for happiness that characterized his approach to life.
Known as a "fix-it man," Hob formalized his skills in refrigeration and HVAC trade schools and earned his Master Electrician's License. In 1974, he was hired on a handshake at what is now Sysco Eastern Maryland, quickly earning a reputation as the go-to for regional Sysco projects during his 38-year tenure. He also built Lakeland and Jenkins Orchard housing developments, as well as Newtowne Square in Pocomoke.
Hob loved volunteering his talents to expand the facilities at the Lower Shore Family YMCA, restore Pocomoke's historic MAR-VA Theater, and countless additional projects in Pocomoke and his beloved Bonita Springs, Florida, where he and his wife spent much of their retirement.
Hob built communities everywhere he went, inspiring others to "grab it and growl" alongside him on runs, walks, hikes, kayaking trips, and more. In addition to over 200 runs and triathlons, Hob completed eight Marine Corps marathons. No matter what challenge he faced that day, Hob never missed a chance for happy hour or a sunset.
Hob is survived by his cherished wife of 40 years, Amy Mason; son Jeremy Mason, wife Rebecca, their children Ella and Jack; son Adam Mason, wife Katie, their children Sawyer and Everly; daughter Sarah Carson, husband Christopher, their son Cypress; brother Carlton Mason, wife Kathy; his treasured mother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 13 collective nieces and nephews, and their children.
In lieu of flowers, Hob requested memorial contributions to the Lower Shore Family YMCA at P. O. Box 501, Pocomoke City, MD 21851 or MAR-VA Theater at www.marvatheater.com/donate.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17th at the Elks Lodge in Pocomoke. All are welcome.

Hob was someone I always looked forward to seeing in the RV park. I loved watching him dance...non stop... at the "dance party". He was a kind and selfless person, always helping my handicapped husband and I. I enjoyed having a glass of wine with him and his beautiful wife Amy and seeing him at the gym. I am so sad that he is no longer with us and I will miss seeing him and Amy in Florida. It will not be the same. Hob may you rest in peace and watch over your beautiful wife Amy. Love you both and miss you already.
Susan and Barry Lemire xoxo
