Born in Brooklyn NY to Inge and Karl Rutter, sister to Doris and Karl, Aunt to Danielle, Peter and Anthony Christopher, Great Aunt to -Anthony, Sophia, Peter and Olivia.
Irene was a real Brooklyn girl growing up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn attending Fort Hamilton HS and Brooklyn College majoring in political science. She worked hard and made her parents proud graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kapa, later she obtained a Master's degree from. NYU in Import Management. She worked as an Import Manager for many years.
As a young woman, she was involved with the Girl Scouts being a Brownie leader. She was an active member at St Jacobi Lutheran Church and served on church council for many years.
In 1988 she married Charles Contessa and moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey. They had been married for 40 years. Irene enjoyed crocheting, making many blankets for family and friends.
In recent years, Irene became less mobile and looked forward to her visits with her niece Danielle, crafting and crocheting together.
